Best Rates 24 Hours Car Rental: We cannot speak highly enough of Sandra Maylor, Managing Director of Best Rates Car Rental. We had hoped to use public transport but soon realized we couldn't transport our equipment and supplies on foot!

Thanks to Ms. Maylor, we were able to transport ourselves and sometimes our interviewees & their friends & families from Cap Estate to Vieux Fort, from Soufriere to Des Ruisseaux and back again.

Grocery Shopping

We did most of our grocery shopping at the Gablewood Mall, both at the Super J Supermarketand at Ebenezer's fruit and vegetable shop. We always stopped at the pickup parked in the parking lot for a refreshing coconut water, sipped from a coconut opened with a cutlass! The Castries Market, one of the top street markets in the world, has an excellent array of produce and local spices.

Books

For books and magazines, especially the work of the many St. Lucian writers, visit Sunshine Books at the JQ Mall in Rodney Bay. Downtown, Book Salon has many excellent titles, including the texts for the CXCE exam. We found books relevant to our work by browsing the academic selection.

Clothing

Visit Caribelle Batik, located on Morne Fortune above Castries for beautiful clothing and other fabric items. Their batik work is gorgeous; demonstrations of the technique occur each day and many items are crafted on-site. The view is spectacular. Sea Island Cotton, in the Baywalk Mall, Rodney Bay has a variety of goods for both locals and visitors. 

Shopping Malls

There are several shopping malls: JQ Mall  and Baywalk Mall in Rodney Bay, Blue Coral Mall, La Place Carenage & Pointe Seraphine, in downtown Castries and the JQ Mall in Vieux Fort.
